Art class has basically gotten me wanting to show off some of my other styles to I do offline that I really don't post alot of. Working so much in still-lifes and pencil and charcoal shading has made me want to expand alittle more beyond Photoshop, since the only thing you guys have seen me do outside of Photoshop well is Modern Willie. Hell, just today in class I did a Halle Barry portrait in 4 hours o@. yeah it's time to use that alittle more.
The reason I usually don't do that much of traditional style online is the simple fact that I really consider my Sonic/Cel shading/photoshopping to be harder. In a portrait like Modern Willie, your dealing with millions and millions of colors and shades, and provided your proportions are roughly anatomically correct, mistakes(if there truely ever are in tradtional art) are alot less apparent. In something that is cel shaded, your dealing with very sharp and precise 2-4 tone shading, and mishaps become far more visible.
Now about this new pic, well.....I'm actuually very happy. Today was actually one of those days your just feel in the zone drawing.....I love those days. =B. And from all the drawing still-lifes, anatomy, portraits, and figures these last few weeks, I feel like I'm almost there, the point I truely want to be at. The folds in my clothing is starting to look more natural and the highlught on my jacket turned out far better that I truely expected. It's really not that bad for a 3-hour pic. I did notice later a few problems in the left shoulder and the chest strips seem slightly off, but I still feel like I'm about to make another nice advancement very very soon.
Yes, there's nothing as good as hitting your artistic swing so dead on that you feel as though you can accomplish anything.

It's not easy being insane. But I'm willing to do what it takes...
Besides without people like me, all the normal people would lead such boring lives.
yeah the chest rings are a bitch to like right. the highlights on the jacket is great. he looks a bit peeved. i think you've taken his hat too many times Jamie .

and it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn.
Great work on the shading, Justin ^_^ Yes, I think you've definitely improved a lot with your anatomy and such, though I feel you've always been pretty good at coloring :>

Charcoal is one of my favorite mediums. I rarely use it. This is rather well done.
Ever thought about doing an "Eraser" drawing? You cover the paper in charcoal, about 50%... then you use a kneaded eraser to add highlights and color darker with the charcoal to do darkness. It does awesome realistic shtuff.

~To rebel is to follow. To conform is to rebel... ~
actually, it's straight pencil and paper numb technique, and the hightlights are cut away with an eraser.
I've done a few projects like that, though i have a bad habit of working too much of the medium into the paper and staining it, then it becomes an extreme pain for the to get my highlights looking right (to me anyway, my teachers argue)
Yeah, the chest rings are a little awkward... But the rest of it kicks much ass, especially the highlighting on the jacket... That turned out excellent. Mucho sexyness *runs a finger along his chest*
